A sense of desperation and disillusionment has migrated south and settled among the downtrodden in the wake of North Africa’s ‘Arab Spring’, and it comes as no surprise.

It’s been fast as a swift seeking better climes, and examples of institutionalized mass murder perpetrated daily elsewhere in the world such as in Syria has instilled a sad cynicism that robs an otherwise compassionate observer of any real or lasting outrage. It’s now all par for the course.

Just a few months ago South Africans witnessed the slaying of Andries Tatane by police. Here it dealt with a single victim and drew media attention from across the globe. This time though 34 hapless miners set out three weeks ago to claim a greater slice of the platinum cake, but instead ended up dead at the hands of incompetent police.

It is just the beginning of more violent labour unrest ahead in South Africa and has provided manna from heaven for those with a personal political agenda keen to fan the flames of discontent among the disenfranchised. It is the stuff anarchy is made of, and activist threats of making the country ungovernable are gaining momentum with each atrocity committed by ill prepared police displaying a dismal level of training under poor leadership.

In this instance the police faced a hoard of angry workers imbued with a deeply ingrained cultural and social makeup. These played a massive role in their preparation for confrontation, none of which seem to have been taken into account by the authorities empowered to keep the peace in such circumstances.

Almost every miner had a traditional weapon clutched in his hand for the looming confrontation, and anyone with a simple understanding of conflict resolution among those nurtured in tribal South Africa will know that a sturdy stick or knobkerrie is often an extension of any black miners arm. This practice dates back hundreds of years, and has become an important and abiding cultural reality entirely forgotten or conveniently ignored by police in their planning to do deal with the sad confrontation at Marikana platinum mine.

It does not take a commission of enquiry to reach conclusions in this affair. The entire exercise was a catastrophic debacle and a perfect example of abysmal police preparation plus absurd leadership down the entire command chain.

In the nineteenth century special training was needed to deal with tribal faction fighting in remote parts of South Africa, and magistrates sat in special courts where consideration of circumstances surrounding this form of conflict resolution swayed all decision and judgement during proceedings.

To what extent this practice remains in force today is anyone’s guess, but judging by the clear lack of insight regarding the critical cultural factors inherent in any cross section of our black mining community the police leadership structure was completely out of touch in handling the Marikana crisis.

One must presume that president Jacob Zuma was deeply disturbed by what he witnessed at Marikana in the wake of the shootings, as he too walked the rugged valleys of remote Kwa-Zulu Natal as a young man clutching a traditional weapon, without which any Zulu preparing for adulthood was deemed naked. So it was with the Marikana miners who instinctively reached for their sticks when disillusionment set in regarding reliance on all forms of union negotiation that had either stalled or become futile.

So, without waiting for another decision from the endless stream of commissions empowered to study circumstances in the unfolding saga that is South Africa today, lets just agree that administration of the country is coming apart at the seams while every established guideline continues to be cast aside as it certainly was in this instance.

Consider also the nucleus of this particular dispute. Imagine you are a machinist drilling into the rock face deep underground on a daily basis at Marikana platinum mine, all the while relying on someone at union level to protect your interests when it comes to salary and benefits.

The allegation is that the national union of mineworkers (NUMSA) has become a toothless organization more concerned about personal issues at management level than the welfare of the miners it represents. A new union is now being formed and gaining momentum, but it too could become just another self serving group as alleged in this instance and will we see another Marikana type massacre before anything substantive is done to address the legitimate concerns of those working underground in the difficult and dangerous mining sector.

Will the road ahead be strewn with more Marikana’s, or is it a case of one swallow not making a summer. And, ultimately, is South Africa’s lasting winter of discontent just around the corner?.

Whatever the case, family members of the 34 slain miners are out in the cold and many children now go fatherless into the future.

That is a stark reality every policeman should consider carefully when next fingers are poised on a trigger.

A wise South African police instructor once told his class that when decision time arrived to use a weapon in the line of duty, first stick it where the monkeys stick their nuts before deciding to pull the trigger. Good thinking that, but what if it’s a monkey holding the gun?.

South Africa’s recently ousted police commissioner, Bheki (shoot to kill) Cele became an instant pariah with his ill-conceived utterance in the Annie Dewani murder case. He asked “Does he (the suspect) think we’re a bunch of monkeys”, or words to that effect. That remark sure takes on new meaning with the Marikana massacre, and should resound loudly in the ears of many.

From a purely political perspective events at Marikana have meant the rapid decline of Jacob Zuma as an effective president of South Africa, if ever he was. The buck stops at his doorstep in this instance and the death of 34 miners at Marikana platinum mine should indeed be the main reason for the nation to deny him any further part in governance of the country, plus certainly no chance of re-election for a second term of office at the helm.

As a parting thought, the relevance of fallen past president of the ANC youth league Julius Malema is now being seen in a completely new light by many in South Africa. He has been handed a massive vote of confidence in support of his calls for nationalization of the mines. Even at this early stage of his career he could quite easily seize political control of the country rather than simply continue as a king maker in support of any other alternative for Zuma’s position at the helm.

With Malema, at least you know exactly what you’re getting but whether his hands are clean enough to govern remains to be seen.

Do not be surprised now should ANC heavyweights fast track every effort to find enough dirt with which to proceed against Malema through judicial processes. Are the puppet masters frantically pulling every string as we speak?

Welcome to the blog of the Twitluddite! My name is Hilton Hamann and, like so many other people all around the world, I too felt the effects of the global economic crisis.
Major clients cancelled contracts and I suddenly found myself with no work and a slew of bills to pay.
For most of my life I have been involved in some or other form of writing, either as a journalist, corporate writer or writer of books.
I always had some interaction with technology but it was at a superficial level. I knew the Internet offered great opportunities but I had little idea of how to tap into them. But, as they say, ‘necessity is the mother of invention’ and I had no option but to quickly learn how to make best use of social media platforms to promote and market my business ventures.
Am I a world expert? Heck no. Like many I grind away writing blogs each day and have concerns about there being enough income at the end of the month. But I can see the future. My online efforts will are starting to pay off.
I have learned a lot, made many mistakes and hope to convey that knowledge, in such a way that fellow

Luddites, who have no idea why they should be using Twitter, Facebook, You Tube or why they should have a business blog, will see the wonderful opportunities these platforms present.
My writings are MY thoughts based on MY experiences as a middle-aged man who always believed social media was something kids and bored housewives did.
Join me for the journey!

HILTON HAMANN

I got to wondering if, in order to use Twitter successfully as a marketing tool, you need to have thousands of followers. That is after all the conventional wisdom. But the more I thought about it, the more convinced I became, that marketing success on Twitter is not necessarily a prerequisite of having thousands, or even hundreds of thousands of followers.
Far more important, I believe, is having a core of quality followers who are dedicated to championing your cause and retweeting your tweets. It’s the old 80/20 rule (although I think, in this case, it’s more like the 97/3 rule) — 97% of your tweets being retweeted will be retweeted by 3% of your followers! It therefore stands to reason that, we should take extra interacting with and forming bonds with our “Twitter Champions.”
While it is nice have forty or fifty thousand followers, many of those are little more than “names in a phonebook”. For example, I live in Johannesburg, so there is no chance I will buy dog from the pet shop in Washington DC that follows me. I follow him back because sometimes he has interesting information about petcare or pet nutrition but we are unlikely to champion each other’s businesses — and that’s okay.

Twitter Champions

However I have around 20 “Twitter Champions” who retweet my tweets on a regular basis, as do I, their’s. But can just 20 people make a significant impact to your online marketing efforts?
Absolutely! These are people who are all respected by their followers. One of my Champions has around 26 000 QUALITY followers, who follow him because they want to keep up with his words of wisdom and writings. When he retweets, many of his followers retweet that tweet to their own followers who retweet to their followers who retweet…well you get the picture. My 20 Champions collectively have about 70 000 followers so, when they champion my cause, the potential of it becoming viral is always there.
No doubt if you examine who retweets your tweets — use Twitter or third party apps

canadian pharmacy without prescription

“@mention” button — you’ll see you have a small core of dedicated retweeters. These people are worth their weight in gold to you. They must be acknowledged and thanked for taking their time and making the effort to send your message out into the Twittersphere — every time they do it!

Recognition

We all like recognition. If I do something for someone — that

cialis

I really don’t have to — I at least would like that person to have the good graces to acknowledge my act of kindness. I am sure you feel the same.
I spend around three hours per day sending personal messages to every person who has taken the trouble to retweet one of my tweets. I do it because it is the right thing to do but it has paid off far more than I could ever have dreamed.

Conservatives generally have always been willing to support the worst demagogues if that’s what’s needed. Hitler got a lot of support from people who despised him.

In the post mortem on the Late Great USA one chapter will be “Liberals Never Knew What Hit Them”. It’s a war, not a debate or an argument or a discussion or a negotiation. And the other side is organized and disciplined, and our side is wandering around in circles sucking their fingers.

“Organized”: actually, it’s a conspiracy but that word can’t be used. Hillary was right in every way. Many many players do not acknowledge which side they are on, but instead pretend to be thoughtful, concerned citizens and neutral professionals. Many flatly lie about their commitments and associations. Millions of dollars change hands.

Liberals have been screaming “conspiracy theory” for so long that they can’t recognize a conspiracy even when it’s killing them. (Yes, children, the reason why the English language includes the word “conspiracy” is because conspiracies do exist in this world, and right here in the US, too! — not just in Foreign wog lands, or in the evil Caliphate.)

Another reason that liberals won’t talk about conspiracy is that if you ever use that evil word, you’re confessing that you’re an outsider, and liberals identify as insiders. Liberals are cool technocrats who calmly explain things to other, lesser people and help keep the lid on things that way – not alarmists who are capable of noticing when they’ve lost almost everything.

Here’s neutral Wiki smearing Hillary as a conspiracy theorist:

“Vast right-wing conspiracy” was a conspiracy theory advanced by then First Lady of the United States Hillary Rodham Clinton in 1998 in defense of her husband, President Bill Clinton, and his administration during the Lewinsky scandal, characterizing the Lewinsky charges as the latest in a long, organized, collaborative series of charges by Clinton’s

order viagra online

political enemies… After the Starr investigation revealed the Lewinsky affair, and precipitated a deposition wherein it was suggested that Bill Clinton may have committed perjury, some conservatives began to mock the VRWC phrase. …The term ‘Vast Right Wing Conspiracy’ continues to be used only for tongue-in-cheek satire.[

But there WAS and still IS a vast rightwing conspiracy. The anti-Clinton conspiracy was documented by Lyons, Conason, Brock, and others. And even though Hillary is a model (centrist) liberal, she used the c-word and had to be punished. Bad Hillary!

The debate over same sex “marriage” has engaged the heartfelt feelings and convictions of millions of Americans. Then there is Barack Obama.

In his ABC interview, the president pretended that his much touted “evolution” had now led him, ineluctably, to speak out now, today; he simply could longer stay silent. ABC let him off the hook, but this is not a credible account. In March, the Washington Post was reportingthe debate among his advisers on whether the issue would help or hurt the reelection campaign and what, therefore, Obama should say: “Obama’s top political advisers have held serious discussions with leading Democrats about the upsides and downsides of coming out for gay marriage before the fall election.”

The same advisers told the Post that Obama would make the decision based on his gut, but that is an insulting way to refer to the vice president. There is no evidence that Obama planned to speak until Joe Biden said last weekend that he was for gay “marriage” and forced the issue.

r as long as he could remember all these thoughts were going through his head, faster than he could possibly recognize them. The glimpses he managed to see in focus for brief spells were radiant, some shooting sparks, others black and heavy. He thought of these ideas and thoughts as colors, shapes, and the older he became the more there were, pushing each other around, bumping into each other, some joining into one, others splitting into two or more.

Gradually, he began to notice that all these ideas in his head were spinning more or less in the same direction like a color wheel, some faster than others, some larger or more colorful, but all going in the same circuit! He thought he may have begun to hear a faint buzzing at this time from inside his ears, which he could tune out easily enough when he had to go out in the world and mingle, but he could tap into it at any time. He would sit on his bed with his eyes closed and watch the images swirl and listen to the hum they made. These were truths. These were the secrets that everyone knew about, but no one would mention out loud. He had a firm grasp on these ideas. He felt that he was closer to a becoming by staying in tune with these particular vibrations. He was, in fact, right.

By choice, and then habit, he spent less and less time out there, and more time inside his private space. His thoughts became more powerful. He could bend spoons, and levitation became easy for him. He began to be noticed when he left his building. Police cars followed him. He drew too much attention out there, and he knew they knew he knew. He would be detained while going for a walk. He began to recognize officers and know them by name, and once he learned that they could not tell the truth, he stopped speaking to them or trying to provide answers. People were stupid, he thought, and those that could recognize the truth would speak that language and make themselves recognized for it.

The hum was recognized as many many voices, whispering the ideas to him. The spinning became faster, and the colors and sparks and shapes all began to blend into one big mass, he could watch it as clearly as if it was in a big glass jar in front of him. It was like a nuclear reaction, or what he imagined the universe looked like before the Big Bang, the pitch of the voices rising higher and higher, slowly over months, he could not turn them off anymore, trips to the store impossible, eye contact too frightening to attempt, he could only stay inside and press the heels of his hands to his closed eyes and try to understand what he was supposed to do with all these secrets.

Finally, there was a flash as the matter crossed some sort of event horizon and blinded him momentarily. Then, he was blinded by the silence that followed. He removed his hands from his eyes. He listened intently. There was only one voice now, clear and high. There was only one thought. He was a machine with a single purpose. He was set free. He was going to go do what he was meant to do. He was going to go scratch his mark. He was going to go make a difference.

Liberals and centrists need to figure out* that a significant conservative block WANTS pain and WANTS inequality and thinks that they are intrinsically good, godly, natural things and that without them the world is a worse place.

And that they are willing to harm the economy and even reduce their own absolute wealth in order to get the pain and inequality they want. (Though they plan to increase their relative wealth). After 1900 some Southern leaders knew that the steps they were taking to protect white supremacy came at the cost of continued underdevelopment, and they supported white supremacy anyway.

Beyond that, liberals and moderates need to know that some conservatives are long shot gamblers, not utility maximizers, and that they are willing to take big, rationally unjustifiable chances. Dick Cheney is a recent example. The Hunt Brothers trying to corner the precious metals market is a historic example.

*Figure of speech here. They won’t figure it out.

As more details about wasteful spending and outright fraudulent practices at the General Services Administration are emerging, it becomes clearer every day that there is a far deeper, government-wide contracting problem plaguing the nation.

News of the scandal broke two weeks ago, when GSA Administrator Martha Johnson resigned following

the agency inspector general’s report claiming that more than $800,000 of federal spending on a GSA employee conference held in Las Vegas in 2010 was “excessive, wasteful, and in some cases, impermissible.”

Of particular concern to small-business advocates, the IG’s report found that the GSA allegedly awarded “a $58,000 contract to a large business in violation of small-business set-asides.”

Mauryk2.com

Ron Paul, by his own admission, has been heavily influenced by the late Ayn Rand. But, as we shall see, he appropriated her worst idea, the Gold Standard. But first, let’s take another peak at Miss Rand.

To get at her essence, we have to see the origins of her famous nom de plume Ayn Rand. She was born Alissa Rosenbaum in 1905. She adopted her new name when she arrived in the USA in the 1920s. Biographers, including two recent ones, have been consistently wrong as to where the ‘ayn’ and the ‘rand’ come from. ‘Ayn’ was not appropriated from a Finnish writer nor did ‘Rand’ come from the Remington Rand typewriter. Rather, Jeff Walker makes a convincing case in his 1999 book, THE AYN RAND CULT, that ‘Ayn’ was a common Jewish term of affection while ‘Rand’ was from the a

buy viagra without prescription

ssociation with South Africa gold which was mined by the Oppenheimers and the like.

Furthermore, Walker writes this:

“The word ‘gold’ and the imagery of gold saturate ATLAS SHRUGGED, and the gold standard plays a prominent role in her ideology. Even ‘Galt’ is ‘gold,’ pronounced with a Yiddish inflection.”

Rand also heavily promoted the Austrian economist Ludwig von Mises, whose one trick pony was the Gold Standard. Von Mises, of course, was sponsored by the Rothschilds and the Warburgs. These folks aren’t in the game for love.

Ron Paul, in turn, inherited this von Mises obsession. In fact, Ron Paul’s REAL campaign amounts to one long gold commercial, all the rest being crap. And you thought the drug-addled Glenn Beck was the only one whoring for gold?

To start with, the Gold Standard would be an impossibility. There is simply not enough gold in the entire world to monetize it in such a way as to meet the needs of the modern economy. Moreover, private bankers, who we need not name, have cornered the greater chunk of the gold available in the world.

Gaming with gold is a loaded proposition.
