Officials at NASA say that a crater on the moon hold vast quantities of water in the form of ice, a discovery that could pave the way for future mission to the

Earth satellite.

New research shows there may be frozen water inside a massive crater, called the Shackleton crater, say NASA scientists. Researchers from NASA, MIT, and Brown University say they studied the crater with the help of a laser device, and they note that recorded measurements indicate the presence of ice. The team of astronomers say the laser lit up the area and allowed them to measure the natural reflectivity inside the crater.

“While the distribution of brightness was not exactly what we had expected, practically every measurement related to ice and other volatile compounds on the moon is surprising, given the cosmically cold temperatures

inside its polar craters,” said the scientists.

For the

first time, archaeologists have uncovered shrines from the time of the early Biblical kings in the Holy Land, providing the earliest evidence of a cult, they say.

Excavation within the remains of the roughly 3,000-year-old fortified city of Khirbet Qeiyafa, located about 19 miles (30 kilometers) southwest of Jerusalem, have revealed three large rooms used as shrines, along with artifacts, including tools, pottery and objects, such as alters associated with worship.

The three shrines were part of larger building complexes, and the artifacts included five standing stones, two basalt altars, two pottery libation vessels and two portable shrines, one made of pottery, the other of stone. The portable shrines are boxes shaped like temples.

The shrines themselves reflect an architectural style dating back as early as the time of King David (of the biblical David and Goliath story), providing the first physical evidence of a cult in the time of King David, according to an announcement by Yosef Garfinkel, an archaeologist at Hebrew University of Jerusalem. The rare flesh-eating disease that claimed a Georgia woman’s leg and has her fighting for her life was caused by a common bacteria that thrives in warm climates and fresh water.

Aimee Copeland, a 24-year old master’s student at the University of West Georgia, has necrotizing fasciitis caused by Aeromonas hydrophila, a bacteria usually linked to intestinal disease.

“This bacteria is a common cause of diarrheal illness,” said Dr. William Schaffner, chair of preventive medicine at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tenn., and president of the National Foundation for Infectious Diseases. “For it to cause a deep wound infection that dissolves tissue, that’s not common.”
