WASHINGTON (AP) — A major donor to President Barack Obama has been accused of defrauding a businessman and impersonating a bank official, creating new headaches for Obama’s re-election campaign as it deals with the questionable history of another top supporter.

The New York donor, Abake Assongba, and her husband contributed more than $50,000 to Obama’s re-election effort this year, federal records show. But Assongba is also fending off a civil court case in Florida, where she’s accused of thieving more than $650,000 to help build a multimillion-dollar home in the state — a charge her husband denies.

Obama is the only presidential contender this year who released his list of “bundlers,” the financiers who raise campaign money by soliciting high-dollar contributions from friends and associates. But that disclosure has not come without snags; his campaign returned $200,000 last month to Carlos and Alberto Cardona, the brothers of a Mexican fugitive wanted on federal drug charges. READ

Making The Same Mistake Twice

Courtesy MCW News

It is estimated that up to a million people died as a function of George Bush Jr.’s decision to invade Iraq. According to Bush, that decision was made on the basis of “faulty intelligence.” This is the ex-president’s way of passing the blame. The decision was made by Mr. Bush’s insistence that the accurate intelligence he was getting from traditional sources was false, and that the lies he was being told by other parties were true.

Now there is Iran. Over and again the intelligence community has told the powers that be that Iran is not engaged in a nuclear weapons program. And over and again the men and women in Congress and the White House have insisted that these traditional sources of information are wrong and that the stories that are coming from other sources (in this case the Israeli government and its special interest agents in Washington) know better. As in 2003, so it is in 2012. The politicians appear to be out for blood. One wonders how many dead and maimed bodies will satisfy them? Perhaps it will be a million dead Iranians.

The only difference is that today, we have a president who is hesitant to go to war this very moment. As General Martin Dempsey, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, has put it, the major difference between the U.S. and Israel on military action against Iran is timing. For President Obama, first comes the “diplomacy” of ultimatums combined with draconian sanctions, and then comes the slaughter. Perhaps it will come in his anticipated second term.

Economic Collapse Blog

We live in a world that is becoming increasingly unstable, and the potential for an event that could cause “sudden change” to the U.S. economy is greater than ever. There are dozens of potentially massive threats that could easily push the U.S. economy over the edge during the next 12 months. A war in the Middle East, a financial collapse in Europe, a major derivatives crisis or a horrific natural disaster could all change our economic situation very rapidly. Most of the time I write about the long-term economic trends that are slowly but surely ripping the U.S. economy to pieces, but the truth is that just a single really bad “black swan event” over the next 12 months could accelerate our economic problems dramatically. If oil was cut off from the Middle East or a really bad natural disaster suddenly destroyed a major U.S. city, the U.S. economy would be thrown into a state of chaos. Considering how bad the U.S. economy is currently performing, it would be easy to see how a major “shock to the system” could push us into the “next Great Depression” very easily. Let us hope that none of these things actually happen over the next 12 months, but let us also understand that we live in a world that has become extremely chaotic and extremely unstable.

In the list below, you will find some “sudden change” events that are somewhat likely and some that are quite unlikely. I have tried to include a broad range of potential “black swan events”, but there are certainly dozens more massive threats that could potentially be listed.

The following are 15 potentially massive threats to the U.S. economy over the next 12 months….

#1 War With Syria - U.S. Senator John McCain is now publicly calling for U.S. airstrikes against Syria. A military conflict with Syria becomes more likely with each passing day.

#2 War With Iran - A war in the Middle East involving Iran could literally erupt at any time. The following is from a Reuters news report that was issued on Monday….

President Barack Obama appealed to Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday to give sanctions time to curb Iran’s nuclear ambitions, but the Israeli prime minister offered no sign of backing away from possible military action, saying his country must be the “master of its fate.”

Portland Oregon- On February 2, 2012 many residence of Portland Oregon witnessed what some described as a strange ‘Contrail’ in the late afternoon sky. Later that night some reported witnessing multi-colored darting lights, and hearing what appeared to be fighter jets in the same skies above the city. Some claim that the sharp angled turns of the contrail was too abrupt and steep for a normal plane, and it is believed that the featured jet trail was not from a fighter jet. What was it (if anything)? Look at the pictures below taken by one of our readers / congtributors and give us your thoughts.

Free computer Tech support for all. Got a question? I’ll do my best to help you solve your problem.

Antivirus:I’m often asked “what’s the best antivirus software I can buy” The answer is… never buy anti-virus software. AVG Free IMHO is the best anti-virus software you can install on your computer and it won’t cost you any more than the time it takes you to download and install it. This is all I ever use on my PC’s and the only one I recommend. Other vendors offer free anti-virus software but I find them too obtrusive and in your face like ‘Norton’ or ‘ McAfee’. I’ve used AVG for well over 10 years and have been virus free ever since. Don’t be fooled by the checklist side by side offering ‘AVG Internet Security 2012′ The only real difference is it includes a firewall. While this is a good thing, mostoperating systems already have a sufficient firewall and your router or modem usually has it’s own firewall as well. If you are concerned about being vulnerable click “proceed” then “All Service Ports” at Shields Up! If you are concerned about malware or spyware try Malwarebytes. However, with AVG protecting you, my bet is the scan will be clean.

Safer passwords:

Lets face it, most of our Internet security problems are self inflicted. Some of us use easy to remember passwords and use the same one for every site we frequently visit. The best passwords you can create are ones that do not contain words or names (pet names for example) but rather passwords with multiple characters and numbers, upper and lower case letters and even some punctuation thrown in for even stronger protection. Example: ‘G900!esy#55EXCEaarq31′ The longer and more complicated the better. Try for a password with at least 8 characters long and case sensitive letters. Include numbers and punctuation as you are able. (note, some websites prohibit the use of punctuation while others require it) Change your passwords regularly.

Wi-Fi security.

Setting up a Wi-Fi Hotspot in your home is a great way to share media, watch Netflix in every room in your home… and also enjoy a possible tour of D block at your local penitentiary.

Fact: If your Wi-Fi is unsecured and a pedophile parks outside your home and surfs child pornography, it’s not traced to the perpetrator it’s traced to your home network. If left unsecured you may have a policeman at your front door someday. You are responsible for any illegal activities that occur on your network. If left unsecured you could be held liable. Once a person has access to your network, your files, your passwords, and privacy are compromised. In the hands of the wrong person the possibilities are endless. From ID theft to… well use your imagination. Using WPA or WPA2 are your best options for securing your WiFi from unauthorized access. Never use WEP as any moron with youtube access can crack it in under 5 minutes. Again, change your passwords regularly

Surfing unsecured networks.

Motels, Libraries, Shopping Malls, and other places offer Wi-Fi for your convenience. The problem with these unsecured networks is if you login to a service (Facebook as example) your password and username can be observed and recorded by anyone with the malicious intent to do so. Some locations like motels offer a secured connection for a low daily price. Another option is to create avirtual private network. There is various software available to accomplish this such as Hotspot ShieldAlthough I have no direct experience doing so, as I never have had the need.

Israel Police have begun implementing a new method of searching Palestinian vehicles through use of nausea-inducing chemicals at a Bethlehem checkpoint, international aid workers have reported.

Since December, Israeli police officers have introduced what they call a sophisticated method of tracking explosive materials.

Palestinians with Israeli license plates, usually residents of Jerusalem or foreign residents are allowed to pass through the checkpoint. Cars traveling to Jerusalem are often asked by Border Police soldiers to park their car in a side lot with eight parking spaces near the checkpoint. Once parked, the passengers are asked to roll up all windows, apart from that of the driver – and exit the vehicle. Two tubes are then connected to the vehicle – one is connected to an air pump, the other, which passes through a tiny filter, is attached to the vehicle. A policeman with a stopwatch flicks the air pump switch.

By JOSEPH FITSANAKIS | intelNews.org |
The United States Central Intelligence Agency tried at least twice to install a nuclear-powered surveillance device atop the Indian Himalayas, in an effort to spy on China. The decision to plant the device was taken in 1964, soon after communist China detonated its first nuclear bomb. In 1965, a team of CIA operatives attempted to climb Nanda Devi in the Garhwal Himalayas, which, at 25,645 feet (7,816 meters), is the highest mountain peak located entirely within Indian territory. But the top-secret mission failed miserably after adverse weather forced the CIA team to give up its effort approximately 2,000 feet below the summit. Battling against a heavy snowstorm, the CIA officers abandoned the 125-pound device, which was eventually swept away (.pdf document) by an avalanche. Incredibly, the team members deserted the surveillance device even though they knew it contained plutonium 238, which can emit radioactivity for over 500 years. In 1966, the same CIA team returned to Nanda Devi, in an effort to recover the complex surveillance instrument, but failed to locate it. In response to the second failed mission, the Agency decided to close the book on Nanda Devi, and instead constructed an identical surveillance device, which was transported and installed on Nanda Kot, a mountain peak located about nine miles (15 km) southeast of Nanda Devi. At 6,861 meters, Nanda Kot is about 3,000 feet shorter and far less steep than Nanda Devi. In 1967, a successful CIA attempt was made to reach the peak of Nakda Kot, where the radioactive surveillance device was installed. It is believed that it served its purpose before being abandoned there in 1968. Ten years later, in 1978, both operations were revealed in an article published in US-based Outside magazine. The revelation caused a major political uproar in India, as many Indians consider the Himalayas ‘sacred’ ground. Now the National Archives of India has released a batch of previously classified internal documents from India’s Ministry of External Affairs. The documents reveal that the 1978 disclosure of the two CIA operations caused a serious political crisis in India’s governing establishment and caused some damage in the bilateral ties between Washington and New Delhi. What is perhaps more interesting is that, according to the newly declassified documents, the government of India appears to have been unaware that both CIA missions in the Himalayas were undertaken with the direct collaboration of Indian intelligence. One inevitably wonders whether that was because the Congress Party, which ruled India for decades, but had lost the 1977 national election, had failed to let the governing left-leaning Janata Party coalition about the CIA operations. Or could it be that the Congress Party was also in the dark about the CIA’s Himalaya spy expeditions? READ MORE
